Moby (real name Richard Melville Hall; born September 11, 1965, Harlem, New York) is an American musician, singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, working in genres ranging from electronica to pop, rock and punk. He is a solo artist, making most of his studio recordings by himself, and is accompanied by his rock band at concerts. Has never been married and has no children. Moby plays keyboards, guitar, bass guitar and percussion. He released his first album - in the techno style - in 1992 (Moby). Among his famous songs: "Extreme Ways" (became widely popular after its use in the movie "The Bourne Identity"), "Go", "Porcelain", "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?", "Natural Blues", "Lift Me Up". He has also released albums under the aliases Voodoo Child, Schaumgummi, Barracuda, UHF, The Brotherhood, DJ Cake, Lopez and Brainstorm/Mindstorm. In total about 20 million copies of his albums, singles and compilations have been sold worldwide. Moby's album Play (May 1999) brought him wide popularity and huge success. It is a rather slow work, combining a downtempo beat with a perfectly worked-out melody. The album Play sold over 12 million copies. It went "platinum" in 26 countries, was nominated for a Grammy three years in a row, received several awards on MTV and VH1.
