Tom Morello (born May 30, 1964) is an American musician, guitarist, and DJ. Grammy winner. He is a founding member of the band Rage Against The Machine, and has also played in the bands Audioslave and Prophets of Rage. Released three solo albums under the pseudonym The Nightwatchman. Together with rapper Boots Riley created the group “Street Sweeper Social Club”. Born in New York, son of a Kenyan diplomat who emigrated to the US and took part in the Mau Mau anti-colonial uprising (later he was Kenya's first permanent representative to the UN). Tom Morello's mother, Mary, later founded Parents for Rock and Rap, an organization protesting censorship in music. Trained as a sociologist at Harvard before traveling to Latin America, where he first performed as a member of the band Lock Up. Later moved from Libertyville to Los Angeles for a cherished dream: popularity. He is best known as the guitarist for the rock band Rage Against the Machine, formed in 1991. Since 2012, he has been actively collaborating with American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band, taking part in the recording of the album High Hopes, released in January 2014, and the Wrecking Ball tour. In the twenty-first century, having already formed Audioslave, Morello founded Axis of Justice, an organization that unites musicians to fight for human rights and progressive political change. Tom is married and with his wife Denise is raising two sons - Rhoads (born 2007) and Roman (born 2011).
