Self Esteem (real name Rebecca Lucy Taylor) is a British musician, songwriter and actress. She was born on 15 October 1986 in Rotherham, England.
Prior to her solo career, was part of folk duo Slow Club, where she shared vocal and instrumental duties. In 2017, she left the group to work on solo material.
Self Esteem's first single under this name was ‘Your Wife’ (2017). It was followed by the albums ‘Compliments Please’ (2019) and ‘Prioritise Pleasure’ (2021).
Self Esteem's second album, Prioritise Pleasure, received widespread critical acclaim and earned her a reputation as a strong representative of contemporary pop music. It reached number 11 in the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
From September 2023 to March 2024, Taylor played the title role, Sally Bowles, in the West End production of Cabaret.
In 2023, she received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Sheffield.
In 2025, Self Esteem's new studio album, A Complicated Woman, is expected to be released.
