5miinust is an Estonian hip-hop group formed in 2015 in the village of Võzu in northern Estonia. 12 The founding members of the collective were Kristjan Jakobson (pseudonym Estoni Kohver, ‘Estonian Suitcase’, or Kohver, ‘Suitcase’), Mihel Tamm (Päevakoer, ‘Day Dog’), Karl Kivastik (Põhja-Korea, ‘North Korea’, or Korea, ‘Korea’) and Priit Thomson (Lancelot, ‘Lancelot’). The original line-up of the band also included a fifth member, Pavel Bocharov (Venelane, ‘Russian’), who pursued a solo music career under the pseudonym Gameboy Tetris in 2023.
rose to fame in 2018 when their two studio albums Aasta plaat and Rämmar entered the top 20 of the national album charts and were among the 18 most successful albums of 2018. The following year, the musicians recorded the single Aluspükse with rapper Markkus Pulk, known as Nublu. The track topped the Eesti Tipp-40 national charts for six consecutive weeks and became the third best-selling song in Estonia in 2019.
In May 2024, 5miinust, together with musicians Ramo Teder and Marko Veysson of the ethno duo Puuluup, presented the musical composition (Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) Midagi (We (though) know nothing about (these) drugs) at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden. The band successfully made it through the semi-final stage of the Eurovision Song Contest, and in the final they were voted 20th by the audience and jury.
