Alexander Nikolaevich Serov, born March 24, 1954, Kovalyovka, Nikolaevsky District, Nikolaev Region, Ukrainian SSR, USSR is a Soviet and Russian pop singer, performer of romantic songs, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, composer, music producer, and poet. His father left the family immediately after the birth of his son, and almost immediately after his birth Alexander fell under the care of his maternal grandparents Alexander Stepanovich and Maria Egorovna Vidyapin. He became interested in music at school: he played viola in the school orchestra. After completing eight grades he entered a music school in the clarinet class and mastered the piano on his own. In the late 1970s and early 1980s Serov worked as a pop ensemble leader and arranger. From 1977 to 1978 he sang and played in the VIA “Singing Youngs” in the city of Nikolaev. From 1982 to 1984 he led the VIA “Cheremosh” in Chernivtsi. In 1984 Serov's first record “The World for Lovers” was released. In 1987 he won the “Grand Prix” at the international competition “Intertalant” in Prague. In 1988 he won the “Grand Prix” at the international competition in Budapest, and also won the Lenin Komsomol Prize in the field of art. In 1991, Serov's second CD was released - “I Cry”, on which he made his debut as a composer.
