"Kino (early name: Gárin and the Hyperboloids) was one of the most popular Soviet rock bands of the 1980s, part of the Leningrad Rock Club. The leader of the group and the author of lyrics and music performed at their concerts was Viktor Tsoi, after whose death in 1990, the group, which had released a total of more than 100 songs on studio albums in nine years, several compilations and concert records, as well as a large number of unofficial bootlegs, ceased to exist for a long time. Victor Robertovich Tsoi (1962-1990) was a Soviet musician, film actor, artist, and songwriter. He is the founder and leader of the rock group "Kino", the idol of the "perestroika" generation. The creativity of this musician left a deep mark in the Soviet, and then Russian culture. In 1981 V.Tsoi, Aleksey Rybin, Oleg Valinsky created group "Kino". Boris Grebenshchikov helps them to record their first album. Music of "Kino" written mostly by Viktor Tsoi is close to postpunk and new wave style. The popularity of V. Tsoi and the band "Kino" grew noticeably after the film "Needle" and the release of the album "Blood Group". In 1989 the album "Star by the Name of the Sun" was released. which became popular. On August 15, 1990 Victor Tsoi died in a car accident on the 35th kilometer of the old highway "Sloka-Talsi", several tens of kilometers from Riga, while returning from a fishing trip. Victor's sudden death interrupts the recording of a new album. After his death at the end of 1990 the band's last album "Black Album" is published. The years of the band members' reunion: 2012, 2020 - present. In 2012, several members of the band recorded a studio version of the song "Ataman", using old preserved records with Viktor Tsoi's vocals, and in 2020, the band reunited on a permanent basis, the preparation for concerts began, several of which were held in 2021 (instrumental parts were performed by musicians live, for Viktor Tsoi's vocals a phonogram was used). In 2022-2023 the band had a big tour through cities of Russia and republics of the former Soviet Union.
