Capital Cities is an American duo formed in 2010 in Los Angeles, California. Members Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian work in the genre of indie pop, indie electronica, dance-pop, and synth-pop. Their debut EP "Safe and Sound," which was released in 2011, was one of the top ten singles of the year, and topped the US Alternative Songs Chart in 2012. The band's debut album, In a Tidal Wave of Mistery, recorded in 2013 entered the Billboard 200 chart. In 2013 the track "Safe and Sound" won the MTV Video Music Awards and was used in Vodafone commercials in Germany, and the video for the song won the MTV Video Music Awards.
